The Filipino School of New York & New Jersey will be offering their Sayawan Na! Philippine Folk Dance Program this Fall in Bergenfield, NJ and Jersey City, NJ.
Enrollment is now open for the 8 week program for students 4 years and older (including teens and adults). Classes will meet every Sunday 9:30 -10:30 am at the Performing Arts Workshop, 196 Morgan St. (Ground Floor), Jersey City, New Jersey. This location is between Grove St. & Marin Blvd. and is less than 1 minute walk from Grove St. Path Station.
Another class will meet every Sundays 5:00 – 6:00 pm at Amy’s Garden, 41 Legion Drive (Basement) Bergenfield, New Jersey.
In this program, the children will learn the background, history and steps to various Philippine Folk Dances. In the end, there will be a culminating cultural performance at a community event. Classes will be taught by experienced instructors.
In recent years, students have performed at several events such as:
- the annual Philippine Independence Day Parade cultural show in New York City
- a taping for Makilala TV
- Our Lady of Pompeii’s Santacruzan Festival
- PACCAL’s “A Barrio Fiesta Musical”
- The Dalton School’s Multicultural Festival
- Stony Brook University’s annual Asian Pacific American Heritage Festival
Enrollment deadline is on September 7, 2015. The cost is $20/student for each one hour class. This covers the cost of tuition, costumes and prop maintenance, rental and other incidentals.
